rag old lady

Thursday
Jan 31,2008

This morning I go to the school of my youngest child to bring him back home. Though this is my daily task on schooldays today was a different experience. It was 45 minutes early on my arrival at the school gate before the class dismissal of my son. Before I entered the gate I look around to see if the pineapple vendor was there because I want to buy some.  Here in the Philippine sidewalk vendors were common sights in a place where policeman are lenient enough for them to do their business. I go near the cart as I see the pineapple vendor. I ordered three fruits and waited for him since he peeled the fruits. While waiting an old woman just sits on the cart instantly. From her action I can exactly tell this old lady was sick. I hold her to support so she will not going to fell down on the concrete pavement. She was ice cold so I try to massage her in the back and her arms too. After awhile I feel her warm and try to ask her why she goes out alone. She said she can manage because according to her, she is a retired teacher and a pensioner that she has her own money to spend for herself. When I ask her about her children she proudly says she has four. A teacher, two accountants and a doctor she narrated. My husband and I had a hard time sending them to school; we were both public school teachers she said. But we’ve made it she claimed. I was sad looking this dirty dressed old lady. I can’t believe her, if she did not spoke to me in English. What fate brought this once respected individual into this shameful situation? Why should this woman? Is she a bad mother no she is not because she gave her children a good education that put them into a much higher ends profession, higher than what their parents have…Nobody can really tell what is life to be when we grow old. It is an achievement to see our children successful in their  chosen career but it is heart breaking when time comes that we grow very old they will their back on us. As I make this post I’m praying that GOD will open the hearts of the children of this old lady so that they can have sympathy to her

Pampering your feet!!!

Tips on how to pamper our feet, after all we’re on them all day..

1. See a pro twice a month:

After all the walking, the best way to thank our feet is have them pedicure by a processional with an intensive cleaning session and a foot scrub. So grab a call and schedule for that appointment.

2. Sock treatment:

After washing your feet before going to bed, slather on some petroleum jelly or a rich lotion, and then cover it with soft socks. The warmth will help the moisture penetrate the skin and surely you will wake up with soft and happy toes in the morning.

3. Let them breath:

Just like any parts of our body our toes also need fresh air. Constantly keeping them scrunched up in high heels will encourage corns and calluses which is not very appealing. Rest your feet by wearing open toe or flat shoes throughout most of the week, and reserve heels for special days.

Comfort foods that make you skinny

Some experts say we are psychologically programmed to yearn for foods we associate with happiness. One thing for sure: when we need a pick me up, we rich for carbs. They produce serotonin- the brain chemical responsible for restoring our chirpy mood. So here’s a secret way to eating carbs the right way.

Carbs are vital to a healthy diet because they give us energy and it’s their glycaemic index (GI) we need to be wary of. GI is a ranking.. to describe how quickly the carbs they contain are digested and absorbed in the blood. Foods that are quickly digested have a high GI (70 or more) and foods that take the longest are low GI (less than 55). Here’s how to indulge in your fave foods without the guilt or weight gain..

Porridge or oatmeal has a medium GI. Natural oats are great for you. They are rich in vitamin B6 (which stimulates serotonin production) and help absorbs toxins. But if you add full-fat milk, sugar, or bananas, its GI increases, and you’ll be wanting more in about half an hour. Add peaches, pears, cherries or plums to lower its GI and fill you up.

Pasta – most pasta have a low GI, but its additives that count. Tomato-based ones are your best bet.

Pizza has a medium GI, but you can lower it with a few changes. Go for whole wheat or thin crust instead of high-GI white bread, and avoid cheese filled crusts. Toppings like tomato, low fat cheese, mushrooms and olives are good low GI options, and add herbs like basil or garlic.

Potato – some foods have high GI but are nutritious, like potatoes. If you can’t resist a cup of mash potatoes or a handful of chips, be savvy: sweet potato has a really low GI. Swap your French fries to camote wedges.

Dessert – ice cream and most cakes have a relatively low GI but contain “empty kilojules” (load of sugar with no nutritional benefits). Get a low fat version and add berries or peaches. A few squares of antioxidant-rich dark chocolate with nuts will also go a long way.

Days of My Life

My hectic time begins on Monday all of my family will be going out. My husband ,eldest daughter and a brother next to her will be going to work.My third child, fourth and the fifth will be going to school. This activity keeps going up to Friday. I’ll be left alone in the house with all the chores to finish. This is my world for 27 years. I to see to it that everything will be fine as they come home.Routienenirary and tiring too because I am not a robot. I am plastic if I say I have no regret at all but at the end of the day , I can say I have chosen the best career in the world. And thats being the full time mother to my five children. To me no amount of success in the field of commerce can ever compensate my reward.I am very proud that we have raised our children to become a responsible individual. Thus our two children have finish their college degree and got a descent job while three of them are still schooling. This things made me happy and very proud.I know i don’t earn a penny to augment the income of my husband but the biggest contribution I’ve made is the fact that my children is on the right track. All of these will not change as long as i live, maybe something might be edit as my youngest finish his school.Tiring but rewarding, in my second life I still have to choose my old career…. Thanks for reading my blog.

Unconditional Love

I was watching the octopus way of propagating on television. First the male and female octopus mate, after sometimes the female has to lay her eggs. She finds a cave and there she lays hundreds of eggs. From that time on this animal will never stay away from that cave.

The female octopus then would have a watchful eye on the eggs. The only concern is to prevent any predator to might come close and feast on the eggs. It takes months before these eggs are going to hatch. At the span of time between laying and hatching, the poor animal does not eat anything. This sacrifice leads to her death. Until her last breath she sees to it that her young’s will not go hungry. By that time, those eggs hatched and become tiny octopus. Sad because this tiny creatures feed on the carcass of their loving mother. If it was not an octopus, I’m going to cry, for her fate was so pathetic. I’m so thankful to GOD for given me the opportunity, to nurture and love my children and live with them until GOD will give the privilege to LIFE. That’s all for the day, may GOD bless us all.
