right hangers

Tuesday
Apr 15,2008

When you want to hang slips and spaghetti tops but don’t have the right hangers for it, try this on a regular wooden hanger: Hot glue a piece of Velcro on the sides. Ours us about five inches long, but you can adjust the length as needed. The rough surface keeps clothes straps in place, making for a more organized closet.

    saving our planet

    Monday
    Apr 7,2008

Unplugging appliances and switching off lights when they’re not in use are simple but tangible solutions to saving our planet. A climate and energy campaigner of Greenpeace, points out climate change as a serious environmental problem. The burning of coal in coal-fired power plants (where we get most of our electricity) emits greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, causing climate change.

Don’t wait for anyone to turn off the electric fan if it’s not being used. Each kilowatt wasted is an added problem for the planet – and an additional cost to our electric bill. If done regularly, these simple acts can become a habit, and eventually become part of a lifestyle change. Monitor your bills and you’ll see the rewards of your simple act.

  • classification of perfume!

    Thursday
    Apr 3,2008

Ever wondered what the words on perfume labels mean? According to French standards, perfumes are classified into four different types:

    • Eau de Cologne (EDC) popularized by Napoleon Bonaparte, is made with a three percent compound solution of oil and water. It is considered to be the lightest of scents and the least expensive.
    • Eau de Toilet (EDT) or ‘toilet or bath water’ as it was historically known, is made with three to eight percent compound solution of oil and water. Its concentration is higher than as Eau de Cologne, making it pricier.
    • Eau de Parfum (EDP) has a 10 to 15 percent compound solution of oil and water, which make it more potent than EDC and EDT. When applied on pulse points, it lingers for hours.
    • Parfum has the highest concentration of oils, with a 20 to 50% compound solution – closest to that of a pure botanical essence. Parfum last longer than the other mixture and is also considered to be the priciest perfume.

  • Rules for Safe Riding

    Wednesday
    Apr 2,2008
    • DRESS YOUR FAMILY FOR SAFETY Make sure everyone wears sturdy, closed-toe shoes; ties back long hair; and avoids dangling drawstrings and jewelery that might get caught in machinery.
    • OBSERVE THE RIDE’S OPERATORS before you buy a ticket. How many are there? Are they paying closer attention when they check safety restrains? Do they watch the ride while it’s motion? If the answers leave you ill at ease, choose another ride.
    • STAY AGE APPROPRIATE Check that your child meets height, weight and age requirements, and make sure any restraints fit snugly. Also, consider here general behaviour: If she often has trouble staying seated or following direction, or if she’s easily frightened, an adult should ride with her.
    • WATCH THE RIDE with your child first, so he understands what will happen after he boards. Instruct him to keep arms, legs, and feet inside the ride at all times; hold tight to any handholds or bars; and follow directions from the ride operator.
    • FINALLY, TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. Consult your doctor and double-check warning signs before riding if you’re pregnant, recovering from surgery, or have any condition that makes you more susceptible to injuries from many rides’ high speeds and g-forces.
