Yesterday my nephew Mark Jame came to our house together with another nephew from my cousin Ayeng. This was not actually the first time that Mark came to our house. Last year he stayed with us for three months, in searched for job. He wasn’t able to get a job because he was still minor at that time, he is only seventeen. Then he told me his interest to enroll at Philippine National Police Academy in the capital city. So we go to the regional office for inquiries. There we were given application form.

After reading it I know my nephew did not met the height requirement because it requires 5”4 ft. in height while he stands 5”2 ½ ft. that time. Yesterday they came here to pass the application but they were told to mail it to the head office. The form was already filled up and still he did not meet the height requirement though he grows ½ taller after one year. I felt reluctant for him, unlike the other nephew who is two inches taller than the required height. I just hold on my tongue about his deficiency because I know, it will not only disappoint him, but will probably hurt him as well.

My nephew Mark is really interested in serving the country. It was my late father who influences him to be a policeman. His father died when he was only three. Most of the time my sister would leave him at father’s house when sister is busy. It was the time when rebellion was at its peak here in the Philippines. My father always told the boy to become a police or a soldier when he grows up to help restore peace and order. Mark kept my father’s word and he has that best intention to become one of the law enforcer. He submitted his application yesterday together with his cousin .I know my other nephew Ayeng will be 100% be accepted because he is tall, intelligent and has big body built, but I did not stop Mark because I know that like his cousin he is sincere and his heart is really to become a policeman. I only pray that like his cousin Mark will be admitted at the academy.
