When she’s not promoting a film or some product she may be endorsing, Cameron Diaz likes to live her life away from the glare of the cameras and the noisy tabloids. However, when she’s doing the media rounds, there are only a handful of topics she never touches, and these include dishing out details of her personal life. The rest, as her interview for the August 2010 issue of Harper’s Bazaar shows, is fair game.

“People always say, Oh, you haven’t changed at all, despite the fame. But I believe that fame makes you become who you are more clearly… When all the doors are open for you, you have to set boundaries for yourself. If you don’t have a good upbringing, the danger is that you’ll take advantage of those limitless opportunities, and then you lose your [head],” Diaz says of what she makes of fame and the celebrity culture. “I’m more accountable for my behavior because everyone sees me. Everyone talks about me,” she add, saying she tries her best never to ask for or expect preferential treatment.

This is how she manages to remain true to herself, though she does admit that being famous also comes with a rather unpleasant downside, like being photographed while taking the so-called “walk of shame.” “I think you build sort of a resistance to it. I’m not going to spend my energy worrying about that. I’m just going to live my life, because I know who I am, what I’m doing, and who I’m doing it with. I’ve always loved men and boys. I don’t get hung up on what boys do. I don’t have a nagging nature. I feel like I can be a woman but also relate to a man,” Cameron says of her love life and the media’s interest in it
