When my mother-in-law died, one of our old neighbors came to visit. Well, we are just of the same age, but she is pregnant. I’ve learned that at the age of 49, any women will have difficulty conceiving. For sure she already experienced perimenopause. But, get pregnant isn’t impossible with the help of advances in assisted reproductive technology. However, she went through normal conception.

There are higher risk associated to childbearing at this age including low birth weight, premature birth, and extremely premature birth. She clearly knows those risks. That’s why she is doing everything to avoid such by eating healthy foods, drinking prenatal vitamins and multivitamins, going to her doctor and so much more. She no longer wants to face another miscarriage that happens two years ago.

Anyway, it’s not a very good idea if I conceive during these times. I’m not just afraid of the risk, but I already lost the desire to child rearing. After taking care of five kids, I had enough. Plus, I’m already too old for that.
