Always remember that the key to a quality wallpapering job begins with proper and thorough preparation. This can be a messy job, so you will want to prepare and protect the room beforehand. In addition, because wallpapering requires precision and a steady pace, you will want to have all the tools and supplies you will need at the ready.
Start by taking all lightweight objects and furniture out of the room. Drape drop cloths over anything remaining and then lay drop cloths on the floor. Lay towels over the baseboards and tape them to the floor underneath the drop cloths. Do not use newspapers as protection anywhere because the ink can transfer onto other surfaces if it gets wet.
Next, take down everything that is on the walls, including rods for window coverings. Remove all electrical faceplates and lighting fixtures but not without turning off the power first. If you have painted any part of the room, such as trim, make sure it is thoroughly dry before starting to wallpaper.
My daughter left almost all her stuff when she departed to look for much better work. Actually, it was a very good opportunity for us since we are obliged to rearrange everything to make room for the additional furniture and appliances.
One of the things she left that gave us problem is her six month old airconditioning system. I consider it an issue because of our old drafty and inefficient windows in the room where it should be placed. We still need to fix or replace it. But, we don’t know where to acquire quality vinyl. Unlike the Windows Northern Virginia of Metropolitan contractors, people can just call if they need a quality window job. Well, I guess we will really need to hunt for companies like this. Or we could just use whatever we find in hardware stores, then let hubby do the work.
For now, we will just discontinue using the airconditioning to save electricity. Good thing the weather isn’t that hot during the day and it’s raining at night.
