A few days ago, hubby’s elder brother celebrated his birthday. I honestly forget about it until his wife invite our family to come over the night before the day. I’m really unprepared and it’s a bit late to shop for some present. Fortunately, I remember he loves smoking cigar that charge me to look at the humidor contents; we do have stocks just in case we have guests who loves using it.

Oh well, I decided to wrap four sticks of cigars dutch masters perfectly. I’m not sure if it’s his type of thing, but at least he can try using it. Hubby also approve of it so I thought it will be alright. Then, we are off to go to the party the next day. I thought our present is a big failure, but I’m relieved it’s not after receiving some appreciation from him.

Essentially, character is a set of qualities, or values, that shape our thoughts, actions, reactions and feelings. People with strong character show compassion are honest and fair display self-discipline in setting and meeting goals make good judgments, show respect to others show courage in standing up for beliefs have a strong sense of responsibility are good citizens who are concerned for their community maintain self-respect.

Compassion, or empathy, means identifying with and being concerned about other people’s feelings and needs. It provides the emotional root for caring about other people. It allows us to be understanding and tolerant of different points of views and beliefs, it makes us aware of the suffering of others, and it allows us to empathize with them or to feel their suffering as our own. This will also allows us to feel joy and excitement – rather than anger and despair – at other people’s successes and achievements.

We can promote compassion by helping our children to think about how others feel. For example, if your child says or does something hurtful to another child, help him* to focus his attention on the feelings of his victim by saying, for example, “How do you think Zack feels? Would you like to feel like that?” Children develop compassion by practicing acts of caring and kindness towards others. As adults, we need to emphasize the importance of helping others, giving others the benefit of the doubt and being open to differences. (more…)

It is indeed a very pleasant day today with the weather that is just right to make me feel comfortable. It’s not too hot and it’s not too cold, just right. It’s the perfect time to just laze around and completely forget about the chores; besides its Friday. But, I won’t do that for now because it’s also the perfect time to update this blog. It’s been more than a week since the last time I placed something here.

In addition, I also need to check the Wholesale Insurance. There is a need for me to gather different life insurance quotes from different companies and compare them to get the best deal. It’s not actually for me; it’s for my daughter who doesn’t like doing it on her own. She’s stubborn enough to ignore the importance of having life insurance plan. Of course, as a mother I can’t just sit in the corner and wait for her to act. I’ll do it for her sake since I have spare time on my hands today. Oh well, better start doing it now.

These past few days the heat of the sun is taking a toll in my health. It’s giving me a bad case of headache. Just this morning while hanging the laundry to dry outside, the hotness is really terrible. But, I have to bear it to dry the clothes. Then, now I’m suffering from this tormenting headache. I’m still lucky it’s not migraine though. Popping one tablet of paracetamol combined with some rest and I will be fine.

Speaking of migraine, I’ve learned Topamax is also a prescribed medicine to prevent migraine headaches. But, it is mainly used to treat epileptic seizures in children and adults. The only problem is that continued use may have side-effects. It can result in cleft lip or cleft palate – birth defects that occur when the lip or palate fail to completely fuse together. The defect can result in a small, notched lip or in extreme cases, an open groove that extends from the roof of the mouth to the nose.

If something like this happens, the aggrieve party can file Topamax lawsuit. The attorneys of O’Hanlon, McCollom & Demerath understand that the child’s injuries may not be the parent’s fault – instead, possibly a dangerous side-effect of Topamax. Their expertise and experience, combined with their highly trained staff, make them uniquely well-equipped to handle even the most complex products liability claims.

Color is certainly one aspect of the great outdoors that lends itself to limitless ideas and possibilities. You can pick one of the most intense colors or bring into play the lighter less prominent hues. A white fence or gate will give eye appeal to bright, vibrant blooms and it doesn’t even have to lead to anything in particular. Just a piece of white picket fencing in a plush wildflower garden will have that added punch of visual appeal and a certain nostalgic feeling as well. If you have a screened in porch or area, use beautiful hand-made quilts or throw pillows with bright, lively colors that match or even contrast your flower colors.

Texture is also fun to play with. Smooth surfaces should be highlighted with baskets. A glass-top patio table lends itself to a basket of fruit, or flowers. Rough fieldstone steps or walking areas show off their special features with smooth, bright shiny accents. A porch swing, whether part of the porch itself or just by itself in a fragrant array of flowers, is a joy to sit on and to take in the aromas and eye-delights of this season. Colorful pads and side-tables add to the appeal, as well as hold those pitchers of ice-cold home-made lemonade.

Fun objects such as butterflies, angels, little play benches, or bird baths give a light touch to any area that is too serious or intense. Also using your imagination can give visitors the impression that you labored just as hard on the amenities as on the garden itself. If you should ever encounter one of those old claw foot bathtubs (retail shops, demolition area, or even the city recycling center) you can have a very one-of-a-kind fountain. (more…)
