Play is an important factor in child development. It provides for interaction, experimentation, and moral development. Here are some ways by which parents can encourage and support their children’s playtime.

  • Let your child be the player-leader. Let children initiate their activity, set their own theme and choose the parameters where the play will take place. Play becomes a venue for children to express their feelings and be in control.
  • Help them help themselves. When your 5-year-old asks for help, say, figuring out how to piece a puzzle together, stop yourself from coming to her rescue and first ask your child questions that allow him or her to help himself or herself. Say, “Where do you think this piece should go?” Afterward, commend his or her success.
  • Play attention. Once you make a commitment to play with your child, watch for the following signals: Does he or she want you to actively play a part in the activity? Does he or she need encouragement? Is he or she tired or hungry? Does he or she need to take a break? (more…)

During pregnancy, the mother is advised to take prenatal vitamins for both the health of the mother and the baby. These are specially formulated multivitamins that make up for any nutritional deficiencies in the mothers’ diet. This is the time where the mother is in great need for higher amounts of their folic acid, iron, and calcium for the right development of the baby.

Folic acid is the vitamin that can help reduce your risk of having a baby with a serious birth defect of the brain and spinal cord, called the neural tube. The natural sources are green leafy vegetables, nuts, beans, and citrus fruits. Calcium during pregnancy can prevent a new mother from losing her own bone density, as the fetus uses the mineral for bone growth. Iron helps both the mother and baby’s blood carry oxygen.

Please click here for more information. Keep in mind that you should do some research to get the right prenatal vitamin. Make sure you know the product in order to get optimum benefits.

  • Cuts Down Risk of Cancer

Keeping on the best physical condition possible is extremely beneficial for the health and overall wellbeing, as countless studies have shown throughout the years. However, staying fit also plays an important role in decreasing the chances of developing breast cancer, also known as women’s silent enemy. As a new study quoted by the Daily Mail says, doing physically stimulating chores around the house every single day past menopause decreases the chances of getting cancer.

“But not any sort of exercise will do. Scientists prescribe ‘moderate-to-vigorous’ activities such as heavy housework, gardening and hiking. Tennis, cycling, swimming, brisk walking and fast dancing, aerobics, and jogging also cut the mustard. But ‘light intensity’ pursuits such as bowling, table tennis, fishing, slow walking and light gardening do not make the grade.” the Daily Mail writes.

“Women in the study’s lowest fitness category were nearly three times more likely to die from breast cancer than women in the most fit group. With more than 40,000 women dying each year from this disease, finding a strong association between fitness, which can be improved by the relatively inexpensive lifestyle intervention of regular physical activity, such as walking, is exciting.” Dr. Steve Blair, a USC researcher and former president of the American College of Sports Medicine, was saying back in March on the findings of the study.

  • changing product is a bad idea

I do understand the importance of having a clear skin. What I don’t understand is that my kids keep on changing acne products. For now, I’m seeing at least five bottles of acne treatment products of different brands. I’m not quite certain, but my gut feeling is telling me that changing one product to another is a bad idea.

I already told them about it, but they say they will keep on changing until they find the product that suits them. Actually, I find it a waste of money since they can read product reviews first in order to avoid buying the wrong product. But, it seems like they don’t like to listen to me. Well, it’s their money not mine. I’m just concern because I want them to save money for their own good.
