helpful tips to a successful partyBetter way of party-throwing method to head off homelessness. Here are some few helpful tips that can keep you and your parties out of trouble.

  • Have a plan – this may be a bit more difficult than simply calling everyone up at 7 p.m. for a party at 9, but a plan can head off disaster.
  • Prepare the neighbors – what do I mean by prepare them? Invite them! What this accomplishes? Lack of people to report you because they’re all involved in the 1-11.
  • Take it outside – this may seem counter-intuitive. Not necessarily. A party by the pool or a grill-out can often remain a tad calmer than a party without all the outdoor distraction. Even better-plan midnight volleyball or dodgeball game in a park close to the homestead and bring those dumb glow sticks…only. (more…)

Basic Installation Technique for CabinetsThere are a few elements affect the feel and functioning of a bathroom cabinetry. But, installing it does not require professional skills, but an eye for precision is all-important.

Installing more than one base cabinet, you will need to make sure the units are level, plumb, and flush with each other so that they will work properly and look right. To ensure this, the first cabinet must be level and plumb, both from side to side and front to back, because all of the other cabinets will be aligned to it. Corner cabinet should be installed first. Plan to put in cabinets after rough wiring and plumbing but before new flooring.

Sometimes cabinets don’t arrive assembled, so just put them together according to the manufacturer’s directions, with the exception of the doors, shelves, and drawers. For preassembled cabinets, remove these parts, labeling them to take the guesswork out of reassembly. The wall to which you are affixing the cabinets should be smooth, level, and clean. Place a long straightedge against it to make sure it’s flat. Mark any bumps or bulges. (more…)

think differently makes differenceThinking of our concerns with our planet, it can be difficult to imagine how any single individual can make an impact, but the old adage of “think globally, act locally,” has never been more appropriate. You can in fact make a difference in the world by making a few simple changes in your home to reduce your negative impact on the world. Here are a few of it:

    • Bigger packages; less packaging – whenever possible, buy products in bulk to avoid the plastic packaging that goes into most food items. The recent trend towards 100-calorie snack bags may be great for our waistlines, but it can increase the packaging of the same amount of product by 20 times. Instead, buy in bulk and repackage smaller quantities in reusable packaging. It ends up being a benefit to your wallet as well!
    • Recycle – many of the items used in the kitchen can be recycled, and it is a natural place in which to house your recycling bin. Most cities easily accept cans, bottles and paper products. Check your local recycling center for other packaging products like plastic and Styrofoam. Keep your recycling bin right next to your trash can, and always consider which bin it belongs in before automatically tossing it in the trash. (more…)

Organizing Tips for your School KidsIt’s never too early to encourage your child to be organized, but middle school is the age when kids start to become more independent; it’s time to start shifting the responsibility from parent to student. So, here are some tips to organize your school kids:

    • Place near the door a rack for outerwear and a shelf or mat for shoes. Have kids deposit their coats, hats, gloves, shoes upon entering. Each evening, they replace with tomorrow’s shoes and jackets.
    • Have kids empty their backpacks when they arrive home. Provide a basket in which they can place anything for parents’ review.
    • Make sure your kids have a well-lit place to do homework. Teach them to use in/out trays to ensure no homework is missed.
    • Give them chores. Teachers report that kids who regularly do chores at home are more responsible in the classroom.
    • Help kids manage their time. Teach them to list all their responsibilities (chores, homework Article Submission, and soccer practice) and how much time each will take.
    • Prepare each evening. Pick out clothes and shoes. Pack lunches. Set out breakfast. Place backpack by the door.
    • Make an out-the-door checklist. Note everything they need to take to school. Post it on the door.

Tips to Stop Emotional EatingMany people are struggling with their weight, especially those people who use food to deal with stress and the problems of life. From the time you’re a baby through childhood, whenever you’re unhappy, someone soothes you with a cookie. We’ve been pairing emotions with eating for so long that it’s little wonder we know anything else. Food can create soothing changes in brain chemistry, and even the simple act of chewing will increase endorphins and ease your pain. So here are some tips to stop emotional eating and finally drop that excess weight for good without even trying.

    • During down times, remember good times: Stick old photos in albums instead of eating chocolates.
    • Comfort yourself with a new pair of shoes. They’ll look better on you than the extra weight you’ll gain from a Boston cream doughnut.
    • Keep a little project near the TV to avoid eating during commercial breaks. This one will really pay off.

conserving water during dishwashingHow many gallons of water do you take to wash your plate? Well, I’m sure many more than you might think if you let the water run while you are washing dishes. Many faucets use as much as 3-5 gallons per minute. Conserving water during this daily chore could save hundreds of gallons a month. Why don’t you try the following:

    • Fill the sink with soapy water instead of washing dishes with the water running.
    • Use smaller amounts of detergent so less water is needed for rinsing – you just need to have bubbles to cover the surface of the water – not enough to make a bubble beard.
    • You may let your dishes air dry in a rack. There are a lot of cool, durable designer dish racks that you can use.

Doing this will give you these benefits: You can preserve natural resources. The average water usage is between 80 and 100 gallons of water a day while two-thirds of the people in the world uses less than 13 gal/day. You can also save money on water and water heating utility bills. Install a faucet aerator in your kitchen and bathroom faucets and you could save 13% on your water bill. And, this will reduce pollution. Conserving water helps prevent municipal sewer systems from overflowing and pouring untreated sewage into lakes and rivers. So, think about it now!
